Scott Newell

Scott has practised law for more than twenty-five years. He has extensive experience in employment law, labour law, administrative law, civil litigation and human rights law. He also spent several years practicing media law where he gained experience in defamation, access to courts, publication bans and freedom of expression under s. 2(b) of the Charter.
Scott initially practiced law privately with top Western Canadian law firms in Saskatoon and Calgary. During this time Scott became the primary employment counsel to one of the largest corporations in Canada.
In 2009 Scott accepted a position as Labour Relations Director with a major Saskatchewan based organization with more than 20,000 affiliated employees in Western Canada. Scott joined the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission in 2012. He was subsequently appointed General Counsel of the Commission from 2015-2023.
Scott has represented clients in court actions and grievance proceedings in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. He has appeared before the Labour Relations Boards and all levels of courts in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Scott has also handled human rights complaints and occupational health and safety complaints in multiple jurisdictions.
